Source Methodology

The site is built around official election sources first, with plain-English summaries second.

Source hierarchy

  1. Official state, territory, District of Columbia, and local election-office resources.
  2. Vote.gov registration pages and federal voter-registration resources.
  3. Federal Voting Assistance Program resources for military and overseas voters.
  4. Original reporting for news context, clearly separated from registration instructions.

How summaries are written

Summaries are intended to explain what a voter should check next. They should not be treated as final instructions when an official resource provides more current or more specific guidance.

Review practice

Review dates indicate when a page or data point was last checked in the site data. Election offices remain the authoritative source for current requirements.
